President and Chief Executive Officer
Simon Bates is GCP’s President and Chief Executive Officer. Prior to joining GCP, Simon was President of Oldcastle Infrastructure, a division of CRH plc. Oldcastle Infrastructure is a global business with more than 90 locations in Asia, Europe and North America. Simon has 25 years of building products and specialty chemicals experience with publicly traded companies, including roles as Senior Vice President for Building Products at Westlake Chemical and Axiall Corporation. Simon began his building products career in Europe joining Hanson plc in 1996. He held a variety of commercial roles before transferring to North America in 2002, where he had both commercial and operational roles before leading Hanson’s building products businesses in the western United States. Hanson was subsequently acquired by Heidelberg Cement in 2007.
Simon received a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of York in England. He also holds post graduate qualifications in Finance & Accounting and Marketing.
Chief Financial Officer
Craig Merrill is GCP’s Chief Financial Officer. Prior to becoming GCP’s Vice President, Finance, Analytics and Strategy, Craig served as GCP’s CFO, Global Cement and Emerging Markets following the Company’s separation from W.R. Grace & Co. in 2016. At W.R. Grace & Co., he served as Vice President & General Manager in the Specialty Construction Chemicals division prior to the commencement of his service with GCP. Craig began his career at W.R. Grace & Co. in 1990. He has 30 years of experience in the global building products and specialty chemicals industries.
Craig received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto.
Chief Human Resources Officer
Sherry Mennenga serves as GCP's Chief Human Resources Officer and is responsible for setting the HR strategy and driving proactive culture and talent initiatives within the organization.
For over 20 years, Sherry has led numerous domestic and international change initiatives as a human capital executive as well as a consultant. Prior to joining GCP, Sherry founded and managed a boutique human capital consulting firm specializing in turnarounds, restructures, and integrations for private equity, public, and private ownership structures. Previous to this, Sherry held progressively responsible HR roles for Ryder System, Inc., Givaudan SA, and Smith & Nephew Plc. as an SVP of HR and Communications.
Sherry received her master’s degree in Human and Organizational Development from Vanderbilt University.
Michael W. Valente
Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary
Michael W. Valente leads GCP’s global legal team and oversees all aspects of legal strategy, corporate governance, compliance, commercial transactions, intellectual property, and government relations.
Michael previously held the role of Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary at Versum Materials, Inc., a supplier of specialty chemicals, gases and equipment to the semiconductor industry. During his time at Versum, he completed its spin-off from Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. while setting the vision and leading the global legal, human resources and communications departments. Prior to Versum, Michael was Vice President and General Counsel of Rockwood Holdings, Inc., a leading supplier of specialty chemicals and advanced materials.
Michael earned his B.S. degree in accounting from Rider University, and Master and Doctorate degree from Seton Hall, and brings exceptional business expertise to GCP.
Dr. Amy Randall
Vice President of Research, Engineering and Product Development
Dr. Amy Randall is GCP's Vice President of Research, Engineering and Product Development. Amy brings over 15 years of materials experience to GCP and previously served as Executive Director for Global Research, Development and Engineering for Firestone Building Products, an international commercial roofing supplier. Amy leads GCP’s innovation, product development, product marketing and portfolio development activities, guiding her team in support of both organic and acquisition initiatives. Amy brings significant technical and value creation expertise to GCP.
Amy obtained her B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry from the University of Minnesota and holds a PhD in Polymer Science from the University of Akron.
