TL–0034 - PREPRUFE® waterproofing membrane cleanliness prior to concrete pour Technical recommendation

PREPRUFE® membranes are engineered to provide a tenacious, integral adhesive bond to concrete placed against PREPRUFE®. This technology has been tested and proven to resist lateral migration of water between the PREPRUFE® membrane and concrete.

To provide an integral bond to concrete items such as debris, latencies and other bond breaking foreign matter or materials must be removed from the top adhesive face of the PREPRUFE® during the construction and installation process, some staining (such as boot marks, rebar rust, etc.) may occur on the top surface of the PREPRUFE®. Testing has proven that minor staining will not infringe on the performance of the PREPRUFE®.

Standing water may adversely affect the performance of the concrete, its quality placement and interface curing with the membrane. Standing water may be detrimental to the system and or concrete. Remove standing water as necessary, if the design team feels that the standing water will not infringe or adversely affect the performance of the concrete and its placement, the water will not adversely affect the performance of the PREPRUFE® system. Standing or ponding water must be avoided on PREPRUFE® membrane before concrete pour, if standing water is present, it must be removed.

Bond breakers such as spray paint or any other types of coatings and or surface contamination must be repaired to prevent a bond break between the PREPRUFE® and concrete. PREPRUFE® Tape and or PREPRUFE® CJ Tape may be used to cover over paints and coatings. PREPRUFE® Tape or PREPRUFE® CJ Tape must cover the entire paint/coated area and overlap at least 1 inch onto uncoated/clean PREPRUFE® membrane.

Compressed air, leaf blowers, water and/or vacuum may be used to remove loose debris and laitance materials from the top surface of the PREPRUFE® membrane. Once the membrane has been fully installed, surface water, snow and or ice historically will not create an adverse condition/effect on the installed PREPRUFE®. Mitigate these types of conditions as required by the site design team for site specific conditions including safety reasons.
